The car on offer here is this lovely 1968 Porsche 912 Targa. It is a 3 owner car and was purchased by the current owner with the help of the Porsche Club of America approx. two years ago, and has benefited from a comprehensive mechanical sorting. The car is in excellent “Drive Quality” condition and runs and drives superbly. It is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity that shows that it retains its original engine and transmission, and that it was factory equipped with a heated glass rear window, a new option for the 1968 model year. Originally Burgundy Red the car has been repainted in Polo red under prior ownership. The paint is good but does have some checking in spots around the car. All chrome trim is excellent and rubber trim is moist and flexible. The Targa top has clearly been restored and fits and seals well. The car’s original air-cooled flat-four engine has been rebuilt and upgraded with the addition oft a 1,750cc kit. The car sends power to the rear wheels through its original numbers matching 5-speed Type 902/02 manual transmission. The car has been the recipient of over $20,000 in recent service by marque specialists at Speedsport Tuning of Danbury Ct and Domenick's European Car Repair of White Plains, NY. Recent work includes, but is not limited to the following; - Original 5-Speed Manual Transmission - Rebuilt shifter linkage with new bushings and Wevo shifter - Original matching engine with a rebuilt Top end including valves and valves and piston rings. - Rennline LED headlights, - Carbon/Kevlar brake pads, - European ride height - Restored original Fuchs wheels, - Original engine, upgraded with a 1,750cc - displacement kit. - Weber Carbs - New Brakes including rotors, pads, calipers lines and Master cylinder - Porterfield carbon/Kevlar pads - New Pirelli CN36 tire - Euro spec tail lights - New fuel tank - New car cover The black leather interior includes a factory-optioned leather steering wheel and has been fitted with a set of Coco floor matts. The interior is in nice condition; all gauges and accessories remain fully functional. The black dash shows some shrinkage in the leather and a crack is present on the dashboard. The Targa version of the 912 Accounted for only 8% of all 912’s production. Arrived late in the U.S. market in 1967; it was the favored open-air driving experience. Light weight, coupled with the peppy 4 cylinder engine inherited from the previous 356, these cars offered all of the sporty Porsche driving experience and build quality of the 911 at a reasonably affordable price.
